Animal Choir, The

Animal Choir is a carefully orchestrated chapbook of poems, musically connected through song and sound. The book’s four parts are divided like sheet music—the opening poems of “Part Songs” are the staff lines which hold the book together. From camp to carving to collars, the sounds penetrate the deepest of memories. Part two, “The Glacier Dream,” plays like a sweet harmony to the melody, “The Animal Choir,” a prose poem. To round out the tune are the “Accompaniments,” poems that fill in the cracks of silence with the sounds of forest floors and warm summer nights.
