On The Same Page -- Vote Today!

Which book by a Manitoba writer should be considered for this year’s On The Same Page read? Cast your vote today:

On The Same Page, a project of The Winnipeg Foundation and Winnipeg Public Library, encourages all Manitobans to read, and talk about, the same book at the same time. The program includes book giveaways, author appearances and special events inspired by the novel to take place early in 2013.

Consider voting for a book published by Turnstone Press! Deadline for first round of voting is May 18, 2012.

WINNIPEG-Turnstone Press books will be competing against each other again this year at the Manitoba Book Awards. Five out of Turnstone's eight 2011 titles were shortlisted in eight different categories, some with multiple nominations. Bob Armstrong, whose comic novel Dadolescence was published by Turnstone Press in September of 2011, was nominated for the John Hirsch Award for Most Promising Manitoba Writer. Bandit: A Portrait of Ken Leishman by Wayne Tefs was shortlisted for five different categories. Other nominated shortlisted titles include Alert to Glory by Sally Ito, Dadolescence by Bob Armstrong, Portraits of Winnipeg by Robert J. Sweeney, The Valedictorians by David Annandale, and What the Bear Said, by W.D. Valgardson. Turnstone Press would like to congratulate all of nominees for the deserved recognition of their work.

The awards will be presented on April 28 at the Centre culturel franco-manitobain. Cocktails are at 7:00 p.m. and the ceremony will start at 8:00 p.m.

I Love to Read! Contest and Sale

There is something special about reading. For some it marks the time when the bustle of the everyday recedes just for a few moments into the background. It's almost like taking a walk through a quiet park on a crisp winter day. However, If you're like us here at Turnstone these brief moments of peace can be hard to come by. That's why I Love to Read Month (February 1-29) is truly special. It is a time when you can give yourself permission to slow down, grab a book and enjoy. Then again you may have completely different reasons for curling up with a good book.

Over the next month Turnstone wants to hear from you. Visit our Facebook Page, give us a "Like" and leave a comment about why you love to read. Everyone who "like"s and leaves a comment during the month of February will be entered into a draw to win a fabulous mini-fiction library.
