Mierau shortlisted for ReLit Award for poetry

Turnstone Press is pleased to announce that Maurice Mierau, author of  Fear Not, has been shortlisted for the prestigious ReLit Award for poetry. Presented annually for works published by Canadian independent presses, the award recognizes excellence in short fiction, novel, and poetry.

The poems in Fear Not are inspired by the Gideon Bible's list of self-help topics and ranges in subject from suicide to divorce, unemployment to gratitude. While attempting consolation, the poems continually mock their own failure to lessen human pain.

Mierau's first book of poems, Ending with Music (Brick Books, 2002), was a finalist for the Eileen McTavish Sykes Award for Best First Book. Beginning October 1, 2009, he will be the Winnipeg Public Library's Writer in Residence. He lives in Winnipeg with his family, working as a writer, editor and teacher.
