E-mail Print PDF

What makes a good action hero? Leaping buildings in a single bound? Dodging bullets? Solving all the world's problems with the force of sheer wits? Or doing the impossible while remaining vulnerable and human?

Annandale2010CroppedWebJoin David Annandale this Thursday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Whodunit? Mystery Bookstore, 165 Lilac Street for a discussion and reading from the latest of his action-thrillers, The Valedictorians.

In the third episode of Annandale's series, vigilante soldier and anti-hero Jen Blaylock has just left Russian arms company Kornukopia in flames.  Now she's having second thoughts about letting CIA Deputy Director of Operations, Joe Chapel, live. From his hospital bed, Chapel plots to kill Blaylock and his former ally, Sam Reed, the President of the United States. To do his all-American duty, he enlists the help of South American dictator General Jorge Quintero. To stop him, Blaylock will have to raise her own army and wage war right to the steps of the Capitol building. But this time, she finds herself questioning her thirst for destruction which - until now - she thought necessary to save innocents from tyranny.

Baldur's Song by David Arnason2010 was an outstanding year for Turnstone and it's talented authors and to top it off our books made it onto, not one, not two but three best of 2010 lists.A Criminal to Remember by Michael Van Rooy

For Jonathan Ball of the Winnipeg Free Press, Baldur's Song was a remarkable read giving David Arnason's saga a place in their best of 2010 list. Baldur's Song also made McNally Robinson's Booksellers's Manitoba bestseller list for 2010 as did Deborah Schnitzer's award winning novel An Unexpected Break in the Weather and two Michael Van Rooy thrillers, A Criminal to Remember and An Ordinary Decent Criminal.

A Criminal to Remember also caught the eye of reviewer Don Graves from the Hamilton Spectator who named Michael Van Rooy's latest Monty Haaviko thriller to his top 10 of 2010.
