Shortlisted: Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour
A satirical, modern-day version of King Lear set in a western Canadian university English Department.
Jerry King tries to be as inept as possible in his role as a professor, but his inability to get anything done only makes him more appealing to his higher-ups. Meanwhile, Jerry's ex-wife and three daughters aren't big fans of who he has become, which is just fine with Jerry.
His misadventures begin when Debbie, a beautiful college friend of his daughter's, shows up on his doorstep, and culminate in a dramatic climax when the family uses his home to stage a Christmas reunion.
The classic story of King Lear has never been told like this.
